Christmas is in full swing in Suffolk with plenty of events on the calendar to get you in the spirit.
ANNUAL CHRISTMAS EXHIBITION
From December 2 – January 6. Thompson’s Gallery, Aldeburgh, is holding its Annual Christmas Exhibition which includes many of our successful and well known modern and contemporary British artists. Included in the exhibition is works by Edward Seago, John Piper, Fred Cuming, Anne Cotterill and Robert Kelsey to represent the more traditional oeuvre.
CANINE PARTNERS EAST OF ENGLAND CAROL SERVICE
December 7. A traditional carol service in beautiful Holy Trinity Church with the presence of Clare, Lady Euston, Lord Lieutenant for Suffolk and readings from Roy Hudd, comedian and carols performed by Sudbury Choral Society and Barnardiston-Hall and Stour Valley Community Schools and finishing with a glass of mulled wine and mince pies.
EACH LANTERN WALK
8 December. This magical Christmas lantern walk starts at Dance East, carry’s on along the waterfront and then back to Dance East for some Christmas entertainment and refreshments. The walk is just under 2 miles. A raffle and other exciting activities will also take place. An early December Christmas event to get you in the mood for the big day.
CHRISTMAS CRACKER CONCERT
From December 8 – 9. Are you dreaming of a White Christmas? Do you wish Santa Claus Is Coming To Town? Well, you’re in luck because the Riverside 100 Musical Theatre Choir will be performing at The Riverside Restaurant & Theatre, Quayside, Woodbridge. Following three very successful concerts at St Mary’s Church Woodbridge, The Riverside Theatre’s very own musical theatre choir, the R100 will be performing “A Christmas Cracker” of a concert live on stage.
KENTWELL HALL’S DICKENSIAN CHRISTMAS
From December 8 – 10. Spend a family day in Victorian England during the Festive Season. In true magical Victorian style, meet the Household, watch the Villagers, take part in traditional activities including many crafts, join in at the Music Hall and enjoy Carols by Lantern. Nothing will look more ‘beautiful & magical’ than Kentwell at Christmas.
HALESWORTH TRADITIONAL CHRISTMAS FOOD, DRINK & ARTISAN MARKET
December 9. The Halesworth Traditional Christmas Food, Drink & Artisan Market will be held in the historic Halesworth Market Place. With 32 local food and drink producers as well as local artisans booked the Market Place will once again be bustling with traders and shoppers as it would have been in times gone by. Disabled, child and dog friendly.
ALDEBURGH & DISTRICT FLOWER CLUB CHRISTMAS FAIR
December 9. Held at Aldeburgh Church Hall, this Christmas Fair will include the sale of good quality wrapped gifts, toiletries, Christmas wreaths, plants, topiary trees, cakes, books and jewellery, and a raffle will be held.
METFIELD CHRISTMAS FAIR
December 9. Held at Metfield Village Hall, this is a real old fashioned Christmas Fair with a wide variety of interesting stalls and plenty to do for the children including a ride around the village on Santa’s tractor.
CHRISTMAS WREATH MAKING WORKSHOP
December 9. Hosted at the Suffolk Punch Trust, you can learn how to make a beautiful Christmas wreath for you to take home in the annual Wreath Making Workshop.
DORIAN SINGERS CHRISTMAS CONCERT
December 9. At Felixstowe United Reformed Church, an evening of seasonal music performed by the Dorian Dingers under the direction of Alan Loader. Highlights include Vivaldi’s “Gloria”, excerpts from Handel’s “Messiah” and festive carols. Featuring soloists Gill Wilson (soprano) and Mim MacMahon (alto) plus organ music.
ROMAN CHRISTMAS MARKET
December 9. Held at Yoxford Village Hall, Old High Road, there will be an arrangement of various stalls, refreshments including home made soup, seasonal foods and lots more.
GET INTO THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS
From December 9 – 10. St. Mary’s Church in Bentley, will have Christmas trees, thousands of lights and festive scenes. Bentley Church stands in a leafy lane in picturesque grounds with an interior well worth a visit. Refreshments will be served.
CHRISTMAS CAROL CONCERT
December 10. A festive selection of Christmas music and carols will be performed by the choir at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Lowestoft, with audience carols for everyone to join in with, organ accompaniment and a solo trumpeter. A joyful start to your Christmas celebrations!
CHRISTMAS MARKET WITH CATS!
December 10. Christmas Market in the company of Cats @Catastrophe Cat Cafe, East Anglia’s only Cat Cafe! Enjoy the festivities at the Cat Cafe and Rehoming centre, raising money for the cafe’s rescue cats and helping them find their forever homes at Christmas. WORLD LAND TRUST CHRISTMAS BAKE SALE
December 13. From 11.00am – 4.00pm, visitors are invited to World Land Trust for the Christmas bake sale. Christmas treats and gifts, WLT’s 2018 calendar and Christmas cards will be available, with all proceeds to help save the rainforest in Caribbean Guatemala.
SUFFOLK CAROLS AT CHRISTMAS
December 13. The annual Carol Concert will be returning to the stunning St Mary’s Church for a magical evening of carols, festive treats and celebrity guests all in support of Alzheimer’s Society.
OTLEY HALL CHRISTMAS TOUR
December 14. This popular Christmas Tour is a wonderful way to start the festive celebrations!
