Queen Victoria was on the throne in the days when Arthur Charles Wilkin created his first ‘Tiptree’ preserves.

They were actually made in the long, low farm building which now houses the ‘Tiptree’ museum and Trewlands Farm remains a very special place in the history of Wilkin and Sons.

Today, ‘Tiptree’ products are available in over sixty countries around the world and Peter Wilkin, great-grandson of the founder, is chairman of the family business. Its employees are also the largest single shareholder and the family principles of Quality, Integrity and Independence are as valid today as ever.

You’ll have your own reasons for wanting to pay us a visit, but it was Kenneth Grahame who famously said “Come along inside, we’ll see if tea and buns can make the world a better place”.

We invite you to join us at any of the seven ‘Tiptree’ tea rooms, located at the jam factory in Tiptree, in the centre of Dedham, on the riverbank at Heybridge Basin, in the village of Writtle, in the traditional old market town of Saffron Walden, in the beautiful village of Finchingfield or our most recent tea room in the historic setting of Cressing Temple.

Each ‘Tiptree’ tea room has a character of its own and so that you can make your own choice, we’ve described them in a little more detail in the pages of this site. There is a common thread that runs through all of them and we’d like to describe that as good old-fashioned service, with care and respect. If we can make you comfortable with good quality service and food and drink, then say ‘goodbye’ in the knowledge that you’ll be back soon, we’ll have done our job.
