Our process

Plans by Norwich Architectural LightingThe design of lighting for any project commences with a client meeting, where we look at the plans for the existing space whether inside or out. Generally, our clients have ideas about what they want to achieve and opinions on the type and style of fittings they would like to use but want to draw on our experience of what is available and what works. We start with a calculation space by space using the manufacturers photometric data and based on the levels of illumination suggested within the CIBSE Code for Interior Lighting to achieve the correct ambient light level. These fittings are switched and used or added to provide accent lighting to objects and ornamentation and to highlight particular architectural features. The lighting is used to present views from within and without and to provide interest via its own effect on surfaces.

Examples of NALC designs

Architectural and garden lighting

We look at the best way to illuminate the external Architectural features of the buildings and their landscapes whether this is a private park, domestic garden or a feature in the public domain. NALC works alongside a number of garden designers to plan lighting for shade, shape and texture to allow the garden to be a focal point as darkness falls.

Internal and commercial lighting

Internal building lighting encompasses the calculation and provision of the correct levels of ambient light as set within the CIBSE Code as well as using light to enhance particular features of the property. By working closely with the client, their architects, interior designers, kitchen, bathroom and building trades we can introduce light into the building to provide extra dynamic dimensions to the living space. Throughout the commercial sector we use light to showcase products to their best effect, and creating the correct ambiance and atmosphere in different settings.
